Space Cadets and Hostile Intent

We played two games of space cadets so far. It was fairly well received. I hope to get my in-laws to play it since they will probably enjoy it. We also played a few games of the recently shipped kickstarter expansion to resistance. We used the Hunter module, which changes the win conditions of the game. When a team would win they have to guess one specific player on the other team or they don't win. It quite changed the dynamics of the game. A spy slept through two missions when there were two fails because he thought that they wouldn't be able to guess the chief correctly. It was super fun. We will play more this week.

Space Cadets and Chess Variants

I recently got a copy of Space Cadets: Dice Duels. I played it a lot at SaltCon last year and enjoyed it so much that I got it for Christmas. It is a frantic team game where you attempt to quickly (since there are no turns) maneuver your spaceship around a board and shoot the other spaceship. Each player controls different ship functions (such as weapons, movement, or sensors) and the team must coordinate their efforts in real time to effectively combat the other ship. The core mechanic is rolling dice and placing them on mats that control the various ship systems. For instance, a player that has control over the weapons will roll red dice that have missile part symbols on then in an attempt to get the three parts that are necessary to build a missile and then he places them on the missile bay that corresponds to the direction that he wants to shoot. At the same time the shield player would be trying to move the shields to point in the direction of place that the opponent ship is l...

Dice Duel

This week I have been submitting games to be judged for the Ion Awards. I am going to submit four games probably. I am also thinking about reviving Polynesia and making a new game out of it. We played some Moar Moai as part of finalizing the rules, and we had a fun time. Perhaps I will play more at work. It is a pretty good game. We also just bought Space Cadets Dice Duel. I played it at saltcon last year, and our was pretty fun. Hopefully Alison likes it as well.

Salt Con: Aftermath

Image
I am back from Salt Con. Here are the highlights: I played a bunch of games which I had never played before. Here are my thoughts on them: Machi Koro: This game was very similar to Settlers of Catan. It was slightly better that the aforementioned game (which I don't like very much), but not entirely horrible. There was a better ability to control your own destiny Council of Verona : This game was excellent. I had read the rules before the con, and decided to play the game at the con to see how much I liked it. After having played it I bought it (those who know me know that I am not really that likely to buy things right off the bat (so that is a large endorsement for me)). I would definitely recommend it to anyone that liked Love Letter, Avalon, or Coup. Get Bit: It was pretty fun. I would try it again. Walk the Plank : This game was very fun. I would definitely play it again. It has the ability to be moderately strategic, but you have to plan your moves in advance, and yo...
